An Inventory of High-Resolution Ocean Climate Models Applied to Atlantic Canada

Climate change is a global threat with far-reaching impacts on the environment, society and economy. Aquaculture and fisheries are not immune, with the potential for climate change to influence production and landings. Several ocean climate models have been developed to help understand how future climate scenarios might affect the ocean environment and dependent activities. High-resolution (<10 km), Regional Climate Models (RCM) can help interpret climate influences at medium-spatial scales applicable to coastal regions.

Current RCM capabilities have yet to resolve small-scale phenomena necessary to inform some spatial scales operated at by the seafood industry, such as the aquaculture site scale. Nevertheless, RCMs are evolving, resolution is increasing and coastal data collection will assist ongoing model development, in support of regional ocean industries
