Aquaculture

Aquaculture is increasing worldwide and should surpass the supply from wild fisheries in the coming years. Finfish is the main aquaculture in Canada, with over 100,000 tonnes per year during the last decade. The Maritime Provinces contribute about 30,000 tonnes annually to the finfish production.

Shellfish is the second most prominent aquaculture product in Canada, with around 40,000 tonnes per year, of which about 25,000 tonnes come from the Maritimes.
