Carbon Dioxide

These animations show the monthly difference in surface seawater partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO₂) between two reference periods: 2030-2035 and 2050-2054 averages. The outputs are based on simulations from a regional biogeochemical ocean model for the Atlantic Canada region, forced with atmospheric outputs from three global climate models (CanESM2, MPI, and HadGEM2) under the RCP 8.5 emissions scenario. Each frame represents a single month of the year. pCO₂ reflects the concentration of dissolved CO₂ in seawater and is a key driver of ocean acidification. Positive values indicate increased CO₂ levels in the later period relative to the earlier period.
